Ways to reset/recover your windows password if you loose it
Windows 7 provides two ways for you to recover your password in case you forget it
1) Password Hint : A password hint button is located in the login screen. The hint button will display a pre written sentence created when the password was activated. (Password Hint) which might help you remember the password.
2)Password Reset Disk: A Reset Disk can be created by any local user account with a password. The disk allows you to login to your windows system if in-case you forget the password

You can try to reset Windows password using Ubuntu
- There are several steps to go through before you can reset the password.(you can try them out, but we don’t recommend it).
Try Logging into your default created Administrator account and reset your User password.
- You will be able to find the default Administrator Account(if created) while trying to login using safe mode.Login to the Administrator Account. The password would probabily be blank(if not set while install) login to the Account and navigate to Administrator options and then to Computer Management >Local users and groups>user, and select the relevant user right click and set password. All DONE ! Reboot
Try using Petter Nordhal-Hagen’s tool to change the adminstrator password
Resetting Windows passwords with the Offline NT Password and Registry Editor

(Steps how to use can be found here) - Download tool from site
Using Barts PreInstalled Environment
Will need Windows CD
- Download the ISO for the PreInstalled Environment from their website
- Open PEBuilder for the Windows directory field, select the location of the i386 directory on your XP disk. For the custom field, select the directory that holds the PasswordRenew.exe file. Select a title for your CD and finally create a name for your ISO file. its better creating a ISO rather than burning it to a cd.
- Browse to the A43 File Management Utility.
- Once there, you should browse your CD drive and find your custom directory that you created.
- Open Password Renew.
- Download Password Renew.
- Steps
